Fall Maternity Session In Memorial Park in Maplewood, NJ
As a NJ family photographer serving Maplewood and South Orange, I love when sessions take place in locations that are meaningful to the families I photograph. Local parks, neighborhood streets and everyday spots often create the most relaxed and authentic photos. This fall family session at Memorial Park was the perfect example…a beautiful fall morning with a growing family in a place that already felt like home.
I had so much fun photographing this family again. I first met them more than four years ago when they were expecting their first baby, and since then I’ve had the joy of documenting several milestones as their family has grown. Being invited back again and again is truly one of the greatest gifts of this work.
This session took place on a beautiful fall day at their local Park, just a short walk from their home in Maplewood. Choosing a location that feels familiar can make such a difference, especially when there’s a toddler involved. Their three year-old knew the park well, which meant he could explore, run around, and settle into the session naturally without feeling like he was somewhere new or unfamiliar.
There’s something really special about photographing families in places that are part of their everyday life. Years from now, these photos won’t just show what their family looked like during this season…they’ll also hold memories of their neighborhood park, the paths they walk and the playground that was waiting as a reward once we finished.
Watching families grow over time is truly what I live for as a photographer. Seeing a couple transition into parenthood, then return with toddlers, siblings and new personalities unfolding….it’s the kind of storytelling that makes these sessions so meaningful for me.
