Boutique School Photography in Maplewood & South Orange, NJ

As a longtime Maplewood resident, photographer and mom raising my own children here, school portraits hold a special kind of nostalgia for me. I love the tradition of collecting yearly images…watching their personalities evolve, teeth move and hair change.

But like many parents, I also found myself wanting something more: higher quality images, more thoughtful composition, more choice and portraits that truly reflect who my children are at school. They have this whole other life when they leave our home and I want to see their confidence shine in a school portrait.

That yearning is what led to the creation of Schoolhouse Portraits, our boutique school photography partnership serving Maplewood, South Orange and surrounding New Jersey communities. I joined forces with one of my favorite local photographers, Emily Feinsod, to bring this dream into reality.

We approach every school as a long-term partner within the same community where we live and work. Our sessions are organized, efficient and relaxed…while still allowing space for real expression and thoughtful prompts that bring out genuine moments. The result is elevated, artful portraits that feel natural, timeless and like what we would want for our own kids.

We also believe families deserve choice. Parents can select the image that best represents their child for the yearbook, order prints to send to grandparents and choose portraits they’re proud to frame on their walls. School photography can honor tradition while still feeling modern, refined and cool.
