Maternity Photographer Maplewood NJ | Spring Session at Cross Estate Gardens
The first weekend of spring always carries a quiet kind of energy…the shift in the air, longer light and the sense that something new is just beginning. It felt especially fitting to photograph this maternity session during that exact moment of transition.
As a maternity photographer serving Maplewood, South Orange and surrounding areas, I’m always drawn to sessions that reflect the feeling of the season they’re captured in. Early spring has a quiet, subtle beauty…not yet in full bloom, but full of promise. It felt like the perfect setting for a couple standing on the edge of a new chapter, waiting to meet their baby for the very first time.
This couple brought such calm excitement to the session. You could feel their love in the way they looked at each other, the smiles they shared and the gentle way they held onto each other during the shoot. There’s a softness to first pregnancies…a mix of curiosity, wonder and the slow realization that life is about to expand in ways you can’t fully imagine yet.
We met at Cross Estate Gardens, a location known for its beautiful grounds and historic charm. While the gardens weren’t fully green yet, the bare branches, stone pathways and soft early-season light created a peaceful and understated backdrop.
By the time these gardens are filled with color and warmth, they’ll be home with their baby in their arms. Capturing this quiet, early spring moment will give them something to look back on. It’ll be a sweet reminder of the stillness before everything changed.
