Sometimes I have to pinch myself that I get to be a family photographer as a career. It's beyond anything I imagined when I started this business over 10 years ago…to photograph families during meaningful chapters of life, creating images that will hang on their walls, and to spend an hour sharing laughs, stories, and memories together.

This family has trusted me with their family photos and professional headshots for the past five years. I never take for granted the opportunity to come back year after year. Every year brings new milestones, new personalities, and new dynamics, and it's always a privilege to document those changes.

This fall, we met at Echo Lake Park in Mountainside, NJ for a family session surrounded by various shades of leaves and perfect weather. Now that the kids are older, we finally took advantage of golden hour…that magical time just before sunset when the light is soft, warm, and incredibly flattering.

The family chose to wear shades of purple, which worked great against the fall foliage. Their outfits felt coordinated without being overly matched which looks amazing in photos.

The kids kicked off their shoes and danced barefoot through the grass, creating the kind of carefree moments that parents always hope to remember: flowing dresses, messy hair, grass covered feet. We mixed playful games with plenty of cuddles, tight squeezes, forehead kisses, and genuine laughter.

That's the benefit of photographing returning families. The trust is already there. We can spend less time warming up and more time focusing on connection, movement, and fun.
