South Orange NJ Newborn Photographer | Summer Newborn Session At Home
I love photographing newborns and first-time parents in the comfort of their own home, especially here in the SOMA area of New Jersey. As a mom myself, I know how quickly those early days blur together, which is why I love helping families capture it exactly as it feels.
I first met this family during their spring maternity session, and it was such an honor to see them again as they settled into life with their first baby (human baby, at least…the family dog may have a few opinions on that title). Watching clients move from partners to parents is one of my favorite parts of being a photographer.
For their newborn session, we stayed right where everyone was most comfortable, at home.
Their beautiful house was bright with the summer sun which created a nice airy light. We moved between the nursery, the bedroom, and a cozy rocking chair by the window, taking our time and following their baby's lead. There were breaks for feeding, changing, swaddling, and plenty of cuddles in between.
Like many of my newborn sessions, there’s no rush and no strict schedule. The beauty of photographing families at home is that real life gets to unfold naturally. We captured a mixture of tiny details, yawns, nose nuzzling, and stares.
Their little girl was super calm, curious, and content to be held close or wrapped snugly in a swaddle. Those early weeks are filled with so many firsts, but they're also full of simple moments that become some of the sweetest memories later on.
One of the things I love most about in-home newborn photoshoots is getting a glimpse into the spaces where families are building their lives together. Every home tells a different story, and as a fellow mom, I always enjoy sharing a little encouragement, swapping delivery stories, and reminding parents that they're doing better than they think. Plus I like sharing all the fun things that make Maplewood and South Orange NJ great for raising families.
